Communications Director at Cape Wind

An Overview and Update of the Cape Wind Energy Project

ABSTRACT

As stated at www.capewind.org, "Cape Wind is proposing America’s first offshore wind farm on Horseshoe Shoal in Nantucket Sound. Miles from the nearest shore, 130 wind turbines will gracefully harness the wind to produce up to 420 megawatts of clean, renewable energy.  In average winds, Cape Wind will provide three quarters of the Cape and Islands electricity needs." This lecture will provide background information, an overview, and an update on the Cape Wind project. The talk will discuss specific details about the project, including permitting procedures. The wind project will be discussed in the context of future United States energy policy.

BIOGRAPHY

Mark Rogers has been the Communications Director at Cape Wind since 2002. After receiving his degree in 1989 from George Washington University, he worked as an energy activist, helping to found the HealthLink citizens’ group of the Massachusetts North Shore in the 1990’s. This organization was started to monitor the environmental impact of coal generated electrical plants built before 1978 such as Salem Harbor and to increase environmental controls on pollution from these plants. As Communications Director for Cape Wind, Mark works with the media about the project, gives presentations to the public and networks with stake holder groups supporting the project, including environmental organizations, trade groups, organized labor, and grass roots movements.
